iOS has gone through several changes over the years. When it was first launched in 2007, it was exclusively built using Objective-C. In 2014, Swift was introduced to replace Objective-C. Then, in 2017, Flutter—a cross-platform framework—was launched. Throughout the evolution of iOS development, Brian Kayfitz has developed apps in all of these frameworks, from Objective-C to Swift to Flutter.
As an iOS architect, mentor, and developer, Brian can help you:
Develop your app for the App Store
Transition your native iOS app to a cross-platform solution with feature parity on Android
Train and mentor your iOS development team
iOS Apps Brian Worked on:
Swiss Chalet

Swiss Chalet is one of Canada’s largest restaurant chains. We rewrote their eCommerce Order App from a wrapper of their mobile website to a UIKit Native iOS App written in Swift. The core technology that was developed for this app was white-labelled for Recipe Unlimited other brands, including Harvey’s, Kelsey’s, Montana’s, East Side Mario’s, and St. Hubert.

Visited

Visited popular travel app (2.5+ million downloads) where users can scratch off their travel bucket list on a real-time world map, search thousands of curated lists and compare their travel journeys with their friends. The app was developed with Flutter on the front end with a Spring Boot/Java server running on AWS. Visited is meticulously optimized to run its real-time map through the GPU. The app can process thousands of data points and millions of users without dropping any frames.

iOS Development Services:
Objective-C Development
Although Objective-C is no longer the primary language for iOS development, there are still millions of existing Objective-C apps that require ongoing support. Additionally, Objective-C is fully interoperable with Swift, allowing legacy components to communicate seamlessly with modern Swift modules.
If you have an app built before 2014 and need maintenance, or if you’re looking to convert your codebase to Swift or Flutter, look no further! As an iOS expert, Brian Kayfitz can help ensure the right architecture is implemented and that the transition is as smooth as possible. He can also provide training for your iOS developers on best practices and conduct Objective-C code reviews.
Swift Development
In 2014, Apple introduced Swift as the new first-class programming language for iOS, replacing Objective-C. Swift brings a clean, modern syntax that eliminates common programming errors and enhances productivity.
As a Swift developer, Brian highly recommends using Swift for iOS-exclusive apps due to its ease of maintenance and powerful, modern features.
Some of the key benefits of Swift app development include:
Speed: Swift allows your app to run incredibly fast, optimizing performance.
Efficiency: As the latest language from Apple, Swift decreases development time while offering more powerful features.
Modern Programming Concepts: With features like Protocol-Oriented Development, Swift is easier to learn and maintain, making it a great choice for long-term projects.
Flutter Development
Flutter was introduced by Google in 2017 as a stable framework, along with Dart, that allowed app developers to deliver high-quality apps without compromising on performance. For the first time, developers could achieve feature parity between Android and iOS, revolutionizing the app development landscape. This enabled companies to save time and money while ensuring consistent performance and features across devices.
Brian has been so impressed by Flutter that he has written a book on the subject, sharing his expertise and insights, Flutter Cookbook was written to help fellow iOS developers embrace this new technology.
Benefits of Flutter Development:
With Flutter, the same codebase can be applied to apps for both iOS and Android, and recently, web apps have become a viable option as well. This makes it one of the most efficient ways to develop apps.
Training your app development teams to embrace Flutter can significantly improve efficiency. As an iOS trainer, Brian has successfully helped teams transition from Swift and Kotlin developers to Flutter developers, ultimately boosting team productivity.
- Developing the same app twice for different platforms is not only inefficient but also costly. Senior Android and iOS developers previously had to perform code reviews, design custom architecture and ensure platform-specific designs, which added considerable time and expenses.
Other iOS Services
Brian Kayfitz understands that each company has unique needs—whether it’s a quick feature update, building a brand-new iOS app, or needing Swift-based code reviews. With his flexibility, Brian can accommodate the following requests:
- iOS Development: As a senior iOS developer, Brian can help develop your app in Objective-C, Swift, or Flutter. Whether it’s a feature request, an MVP, or a full app, he can handle it.

Frequently Asked Questions about iOS app development
The cost of developing an iOS app depends on its complexity. The more intricate and time-consuming the app’s requirements, the higher the cost. We recommend starting with building an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) when you have an app idea, as it allows you to conduct a market viability test before committing to full development.
Cross-platform frameworks like Flutter/Dart are excellent if you’re launching an app with the same features on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play Store). They save time and money by allowing you to write and maintain a single codebase. A few years ago, no cross-platform framework was as stable as native development, but that has changed over time. Therefore, if your focus is solely on iOS, you might still consider building in Flutter, especially if you plan to launch on Android in the future.
As an iOS Developer, Brian’s process is straightforward:
Mobile App Requirements: First, we need to understand the basics. What language was the app written in? Which platforms are you looking to support? Are there any issues with the current app? Brian asks these and other technical and strategic questions to ensure we are on the right track from the start
iOS Development Strategy: For iOS-only apps, having a solid strategy is key. This includes everything from how the app is built to how it’s deployed to the App Store. A clear strategy from the outset—whether it’s for full app development or an iOS feature request—can significantly impact the app’s long-term success.
Architecture: As an iOS architect, Brian will ensure that your app’s architecture, from the database to the code structure, is designed to scale without sacrificing performance.
UI/UX Design: Brian will collaborate with your designers or work within your brand guidelines to ensure that proper UI/UX standards are followed. If you need an app designer, Brian can help connect you with the right professional to match your app’s vision.
App Development: As an experienced iOS developer, Brian can handle the app development on his own or work with your team on more complex tasks. No matter the size of the project, Brian is equipped to tackle challenges and ensure smooth development. He can also troubleshoot roadblocks to keep development on track.
Testing: Brian utilizes automated testing and develops using a test-driven development framework. However, he encourages clients to conduct their own internal QA testing or outsource testing to ensure the app’s quality
App Deployment: Once development is complete, Brian will handle the automated deployment of your app to the App Store. He can assist with generating screenshots, crafting meta descriptions, and providing guidance on ASO (App Store Optimization) to increase visibility.
Support and Monitoring: After deployment, Brian can continue to monitor your app’s performance and help address any bugs, issues, or future feature requests that arise.
Similar to the cost, the time required to develop an app depends on its complexity. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, or even up to a year. As an iOS development agency it is recommended to launch the app in stages, adding features as the app matures and as you gather user feedback.
The main reason to choose an iOS freelancer is that you’re working directly with a true iOS expert. You won’t be dealing with an account manager who takes your requirements and passes them to an offshore team, where hundreds of developers might touch your codebase. Instead, you’ll be working with a North American app developer who has over 15 years of iOS experience. Brian Kayfitz has built high-security apps for a leading bank in Canada, as well as HIPAA-compliant apps in the health industry. Additionally, he has helped companies grow their internal teams while maintaining high code standards through iOS code reviews and mentorship.
If you have an app written in Objective-C, Swift, or Flutter, Brian Kayfitz can help update your app to the latest version and add new features to keep it current and functional.
