Building Mobile Apps That Work Offline

There are many reasons to build mobile apps that work offline. People don’t always use their phones somewhere with a reliable internet connection. They may be working underground, travelling through remote areas, or hiking through a forest. Even in a city, poor reception can interrupt an app at the wrong moment.

Custom mobile app development starts with understanding where and how people will use the app.

Whether you’re building a B2B app for your business or have a consumer app idea that requires offline functionality, Brian Kayfitz Development Corporation can help.

What are some example of Offline First Apps?

As a custom mobile app development agency, we’ve built offline-first apps for military use, a mining company, and a consumer fitness business. The use cases were very different however, they all had one thing in comment they had to ensure that app was fully functional when their users were offline.

In mining app, the app was build to digitize observations made by work crew, during their inspections. Therefore eliminating the need for paperwork. The app helped not only streamline the process but also allowed the back office to receive data in a perfect way for them to conduct analysis and get insights faster.

Military app requires the ability to access critical information in not only remote secrete locations but also be reliable when it comes to retrieving data that is captured while the personal is onsite. From inventory management to personal tracking, offline first app was build to help with efficiency at the highest security level.

Fitness App, offline functionality includes recording a route, viewing a downloaded map, and saving activity details. GPS can provide location information without cellular service, although map content must be available on the device to display it offline.

Offline first mobile app development should be considered for companies need to have mobile app functionality in places where wi-fi or cellular network may not be reliable or for tasks that are critical to be performed offline.

What is the difference in architecture between offline-first and traditional mobile apps?

The biggest difference in architecture is its handling of data both reading and writing. In other words, what the user sees and the what is recorded in the back office.

A traditional mobile app often requests information from a cloud API when a user opens a screen or takes an action. If the connection is unavailable, that request can fail. The user might see a loading spinner, an error message, or a screen with missing information.

Saving data can present a similar problem. If you record the data but connection is missing or lost it will not save, therefore it needs to store it on the device regardless of connection. You can transfer this data when connectivity is restored therefore, freeing up space for future expeditions.

When doing architecture it is important to understand what the tool will be used for and how it will be synced to account for edge cases.

What is required when building an offline-first mobile app?

The first step is to define the app’s core functionality. Does it need to display a map, support inventory checks, record soil analysis results, or handle other tasks? Which of those features must work without internet access?

Not every feature needs to be available offline. A field worker might need to complete and save an inspection, while a manager’s reporting dashboard can wait until a connection returns. Some apps are 100% offline, while others may want offline features for a few features of the app, identifying what type of app you are building early on can help save hours of development time fixing the original traditional app architecture.

Some questions that can help with app design and architecture include:

  • What information should be downloaded before users go offline?
  • How much storage will that information require?
  • What features of the app are needed to be offline?
  • How will the app show whether information has synced?

How does syncing work when the app reconnects?

When a connection returns, an offline-first app needs to reconcile locally saved changes with the central system. Depending on the requirements, syncing might happen automatically, through a manual action, or through a combination of both. The sync is important part to only only ensure your app is up to date but also to transfer the data back to central database.

Planning your offline-first app

It’s best to plan for offline functionality from the start, as it affects how the app stores data, displays information, syncs updates, and is tested. Understanding where and how people will use the app can help you avoid costly changes down the road.

If you’re looking to develop an offline-first app for your organization or a consumer audience, Brian Kayfitz can help define the requirements and build an app that works where your users need it.

Focus and Anti Distraction App Development Agency

As a mobile development agency, we understand the value of building apps that target different segments and help solve different problems. As a Flutter freelancer, Brian Kayfitz, has build apps in travel, productivity, fitness, entertainment, games and food/drink app categories. Recently, there has been a trend that talks about detoxing from technology and focus apps that help users solve the problem of too many apps! So if you are looking for an agency to build your focus anti distraction app, we can help!

What are Focus Apps:

Focus apps range from blocking certain apps, monitoring your overall usage, offer meditation techniques, helping detox by establishing time-outs and more. This is a small category, while there are a few popular app, they may not have the ideas that you do for a perfect focus app.

What are Anti-Distraction Apps:

Focus apps help you focus on a task while anti distraction apps allow users to block all interruptions. While most users can put the phone on silence or do not disturb, that may not be effective for some people. For example, moms who need access to the phone but do not want to be ping on social media, is one example.

As mobile app development company, we are able to provide mobile app development services that allows us to develop an app that matches the app features you want to see. We can also help with mobile app competitive analysis to determine what was done, what is working and what is not, in order to build an app that is different and desired.

Developing a Focus MVP App

The best way to launch an anti distraction app, is to build an MVP app. It is to identify the minimal viable product, in other words the minimum features that are required before launching in the app store and google play store.

The process of developing an MVP App:

1. Idea… Any app development starts with the idea. Answering the following questions can help structure your app idea.

    1. What problem is your app trying to solve? For example, is the purpose of your app to help with meditation? Or stop distractions? Help connect the app with other users? Share ideas? Schedule time to take a break? Yours?
    2. What features would you like to see? For example, it could be a calendar? Timer? Blocker for certain websites or functions? Tracker of your app activities? Screen time controls? Notifications? Videos? Social components? And more!
    3. How will you monetize the app? One time in app purchase? Subscriptions? Ads? eCommerce? Outside App Store?
2. Find your Niche- Next it is important to identify your niche. From target market to what makes you different. A few ways to do so is to do the following steps:
  1. Target Market: Are you planning to develop an app for women? men? for younger demographic? senior demographic? What is the lifestyle of the person? Who is the ideal user!
  2. Competitive Apps Analysis: Prior to developing any app it is important to ensure no similar app is created. It is also helpful to find the estimated number of users and revenue that you can generate prior to hiring a mobile app freelancer. It will also allow you to see features that have already been developed and get an idea what you like and dislike.

3. Planning for the app development – Next it is important to identify the features that you want and either hire an app designer or establish the brand colors, typography and get an idea of what you want the app to look like. An experienced, mobile app developer can guide on how to to streamline features, and basic design patterns. Another important aspect of planning for your app development is to identify the cost of the app, we have developed an MVP app development calculator to help you estimate your mobile app development costs.

4. Hiring an app development team – when you have an idea of what you want to build, for whom and what is the main features of the app it is time to find the right partner for your mobile app development needs. There are a few different choices of mobile app development services that you can choose from, some may fit you better than others.

  1. Mobile App Development Agencies – Hiring a mobile app development agency maybe a great choice if you have a large budget, have to develop a complicated app that will take months to build and if you need designer, QA and project management teams.
  2. Mobile app freelancer – If you are looking to build an MVP no matter how complicated, a developer freelancer can build it as they are mostly senior developers who like the flexibility to work for themselves. They are typically cheaper than a mobile app agency as they do not have the overhead of project manager, office and other expenses. For example, Brian Kayfitz is a senior Flutter freelancer, who has developed over 20 apps, and has lead teams of developers to produce high quality mobile apps. He can put you together with a designer and QA testers if needed, but can also develop with just simple guideline and create automatic regression testing.

The most important aspect of hiring a mobile app development agency is aligning with  a team or a freelancer that understands your vision, has proven skills and can guide you on technical choices that will save you time and money.

5. Post Development – The real work typically starts after you build your focus app or anti Distraction app. As it is time to do mobile app marketing, to be found in the app store, your app has to be properly optimized with the right keywords, the right screenshots and title/description. Brian Kayfitz has partnered with a mobile app marketing agency, StrategicDB.com. This is how he was able to get the app Visited, to be downloaded by over 2.5 million global travelers, with a minimum budget of $50K.

For your mobile app development needs, contact Brian Kayfitz, a senior Flutter mobile app developer. Why Flutter? Flutter is a cross platform framework that allows the development of an app with one code base that can be distributed to both iOS AppStore and Google’s PlayStore, making it the most efficient way to code in 2025!

Creating the MVP App for Our Mobile App

Many mobile app development agencies talk about building an MVP app, we decided to show it! The goal was to build a simple app to present our services, have a contact form and create a quick module on what is possible in under a week! It was written in Flutter and is available on both iOS’s App Store and Android Play Store. So what was the process to build a customized MVP in under a week? How long does it take to build a mobile app agency MVP app? Did we use AI? How many people worked on this app? How does the app get found? All these questions will be answered for the purpose of showcasing how easy it is to create an app and have your app idea go live!

The Idea:

As any app, it starts with an idea. As a mobile freelancer, the question of what apps have you build gets asked all the time. Most of the time, I work for apps that I have no control over the design, or even stack tech that the team has decided to work on, other times, I help a team of developers and cannot take full credit. Finally, some apps that I have build, have been updated by other developers where quality may not hold to the original code. So the need was to create an app under full control to showcase what is possible in MVP app. That’s how the idea to create a MVP app for Brian Kayfitz Development Agency came about.

The Constraints:

While ideas and features are endless there are many different constraints that are often placed by businesses and developers. For example, there may be a process that cannot be changed because it impacts other processes outside the app. Another example, is branding or colors that have to match brand’s identity and brand guides. There are also constraints put on by Google Play Store and App Store which allow and disallow different items from being implemented, mostly illegal content. However, these are edge cases, the majority of the time the constraints are of budget, time or brand/process reasons, with very few technical limitations (although they do sometimes exist such as size of the app).

With the Brian Kayfitz app, our constraint was time, we wanted to build as much as we could in under a week, with no designers, project managers and QA testers, with just Brian Kayfitz, the Flutter Freelancer.

The Process:

1. Business decisions

The idea was to identify the idea, which was MVP app for Brian Kayfitz Mobile Agency. The audience, other developers, start-ups and anyone that is looking to create an app or use our services. Purpose was to showcase what is possible in a quick and efficient way. Constraints were use of no outside help and build it in a week. Flutter was the most obvious choice for building the app, as Brian Kayfitz is a Flutter Freelancer.

2. The features

talk about portfolio, all services that are being offered and about Brian Kayfitz. The other part would be app ideas, which correspond with different app store categories from games, fitness, productivity, entertainment, finance, education and more… There are more app categories which were cut from MVP app to ensure the deadlines were mapped.  Each category had something that people looking to build apps could enjoy interacting with. For example, games allow you to relax, while fitness app is a simple jumping jacks that would allow for simple exercise between all those online tasks people spend hours on. The calculator allows you to estimate your MVP cost, based on different features. Productivity is a to do list that you can use prior to building the app. The entertainment app, is a video of how to use another app that was built by Brian Kayfitz, Visited. Originally this was suppose to be an entertainment video, however, due to copywrite laws, we decided to use original content. Education module showcases a few information pieces that are useful for mobile app design.

3. The development

The app was build in under a week utilizing Flutter/Dart. It has basic functionality that is not difficult to build. The design was done to match the website with Brian Kayfitz’s brand colors.

Use of AI:

There is a lot of talk about AI taking over app development. There is also talk about how programmers can build faster utilizing AI. While working on other apps, we realized that offload to AI without supervision is the worst idea and worst quality. Where AI does come in, is in very specific use cases that can help speed up development. Where was AI used in this app? Augment was used for a very specific case, to add animations into the app. An example of this is the abstract animator background, which was used.

As an mobile app development agency, a lot of time writing our own code is faster than utilizing AI, however, we are not against it to speed up development where it matters and without sabotaging the quality of the app.

4. QA Testing and Launching In The App Store and Google Play Store

It is not enough to just build the app, there is a QA process which is important. In this case, the QA case was giving the app to a few family members and friends to test each part of the app. The most important was the contact us page, ensure that we are getting those emails. That the MVP cost calculator is correct, that the to do list allows you to add your own content, and that the games, videos, articles and other buttons all work.

Publishing on the App store and Google play store came next. Screenshots, descriptions, subtitles, and other boring business staff is unfortunately part of the game. It was published under our development agency’s name Arriving In High Heels Corp, to save time on creating an App Store/Google Play account. We let our App Store Optimization (ASO) be done by our marketing partner, StrategicDB.

If you are looking to create an app for your business, and are not sure how to started, we can help! From idea to development to marketing, we got you covered. Contact us for a free consultation.

What does it take to develop an entertainment app?

If you are thinking of building an entertainment app. It all starts with an idea. There are different types of entertainment apps that you can build.

What types of entertainment apps are there?

  1. Streaming apps – when thinking of entertainment most people think of TV type of apps. Such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and others).
  2. Music Apps – outside of TV there are music streaming apps such as Spotify, Apple Music, etc…
  3. Social media apps can also fall into the entertainment category and include popular apps like YouTube and Instagram.
  4. Games – Have their own category and would not fall under entertainment however, they are part of the entertainment lifestyle family.
  5. Reading  apps – There are many apps that offer digital books, comics and audio books as part of the entertainment app category.

These are  just the most popular there are many other categories including but not limiting: Podcasts, VR/AR apps, Sports betting and viewing apps, trivia apps, magic, horoscope apps, event ticketing apps, and comedy/meme apps. Many apps can fall into multiple categories with most popular overlapping with games and lifestyle apps.

What makes your entertainment app different?

Therefore, once you define your entertainment app category, it is time to define your Niche? The best way is to ask yourself the following sets of questions:

  • What problem or gap am I trying to solve?
  • What functionality will set me aside from competitors?
  • Who is my ideal users and how can my app cater to them?

It is a good idea prior to starting development of your entertainment app, to do competitive analysis on other apps. This will help you understand what is available and what apps are successful, to start thinking about your app’s features.

What features will your entertainment app have?

Some features that you can think about including in your app includes:

  • Core features of the app – these is essentially what makes up your app. For example, if you were building an app that can stream videos of your unique content. You feature maybe, video section, categorization of videos such as a library, settings to tailor experience based on users preferences, search feature and sharing feature to share link to the app for those wishing to watch the same video together.
  • Social Integration – will you allow users to share, are there in app messaging, and any real time engagements.
  • Offline Access – Having offline features can really impact your development and architecture of your app. Therefore, the earlier this decision can be made the better.
  • Personalization – Is your app going to have custom selections and tailored app features, in other words would you need to implement machine learning or AI functionality.
  • Monetization – This is the most important aspect of your app. While most apps start out as MVP apps, to test the market it is important to have a long term plan on how your app can generate income. Idea of monetization includes ad based revenue, in app purchases, subscription, selling physical products (having ecommerce component), and other streams of revenue.

These are just some features that you can think of, if you are starting out it is recommended to launch an MVP (minimum viable product) where the app does not have all functionality but basic proof of concept. Launching the app as quick as you can to see if its successful before investing in full feature development. An MVP entertainment app should be build in under three months and have the basics which differentiate it from its competitors.

How will your app be developed?

Next is deciding what tech to use when developing your app. If you are looking for cross platform app, in other words the app that will be in both iOS and Android stores, Flutter or React Native, is your best bets. If you want to focus on only iOS – Swift is the preferred front end framework or Kotlin for Android. Other decisions include:

  • Backend – Firebase, Nod.js, Django are all possibilities.
  • Database  – if you do need to store data you can choose PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL.
  • Cloud Services – this is important for storing videos, the choices typically are AWS, Google Cloud or MS Azure.

If you hire an experienced entertainment app developer, they can help come up with the right tech stack for your app based on the features, target market and scale you need.

How do you want your app to look?

Next is to define your app’s aesthetics. Unlike other apps, entertainment apps require a visually appealing interface which is also intuitive and easy to use. Your target market or ideal user is important to consider for example, if you are targeting seniors you want to ensure that your font size is easy to read, if you are targeting kids you want to have colorful experience. Here are a few UI/UX design ideas to consider:

  • Brand identify – what font, colors, logo and other design elements will be required.
  • Navigation system – you want to it to be smooth and user friendly experience.
  • Interactions – are you going to animate? have dynamic interactions?
  • Dark mode or adaptable themes that users can personalize.
  • Loading time – sometimes design can be great, but if it takes too long to load or require too much app space, it may not be good to impalement, your mobile app developer can help here.

Legal and Boring Business Stuff To Consider

If you are running a business and want to add an app to an existing business, you just need to clear with your lawyer terms of use and privacy policy. However, if you are just starting out, you need to register your company to have a DUNS number otherwise, Apple’s AppStore will not accept your app. You would also want to make sure your app is not infringing on any intellectual property or trade mark.

Selecting who will build your app

There are different ways you can develop your mobile entertainment app. You can hire a developer, such as a Flutter Freelancer, you can also hire a entertainment app development agency, or build it in house. Each strategy has its plus and minuses. Here is a quick way to identify what is right for you:

  • Budget – If you have a large budget building it with a mobile app agency, will give you the extra bells and whistles you would not get by hiring a developer. For example, mobile app company, will have on staff a designer, project manager, QA testers and maybe even marketing team to help with your app. However, most app development freelancers, do have contacts and can help find a good designer, and QA testers if needed. You can also always hire a mobile app marketing agency, to handle your marketing for your.
  • Expertise – Hiring a senior mobile app developer freelancer, will guarantee your app is written in a clean code manner, with proper functionality that is scalable. A reputable mobile app development agency can also be the right choice if they have the right group of developers.
  • Time-frame – Different mobile agencies can give you different timelines, fast is not always better, but too slow is also not that great. Finding the right development group that can get your app done in appropriate time is key to your apps success.
  • Communication style – App agencies tend to have project managers which typically respond right away and can be the go between developers and your company. Sometimes its a great thing, others time it slows down. Most developers focus on the best way to develop your app, while designers may want really creative ideas which will increase the budget of development. Having clear communication across all parties will ensure the best possible solution for your app. Therefore, communication is key when deciding who to hire.
  • Post launch support – Many agencies do not provide after care once the app is launched. With a mobile app freelancer, they typically work on an hourly basis and can help debug and continue on new app feature development no matter how small the task is!

Now that you have selected the right developer or team to build your app. Your next step is to develop it, keep in mind that even MVP apps can take up to 3 months to hit the app store. A few important tasks are need post development.

Your Post Development To Do List

Once development is done, it is important to test it prior to launching it. It includes testing all functionality, and getting it into a hands of a few people that would be your ideal target market. For example, if you developed an app that stream cat videos, you want to give the app to a few people that own cats to see if they like it or if any issues arise. QA testers typically use unit testers and other automated regression models to test the app. However, human user testers (for lack of a better word), would interact as your future users will and will identify ways to improve the app prior to launch.

Launching your app, it is more than pushing publish on the AppStore or Google Play Store. It involves marketing! In App store description, keywords, subtitles in other words ASO. This is typically the first step, many companies have a marketing strategy that includes sending emails to existing clients letting them know of their app, running digital marketing ads, and grass root marketing initiatives such as posting on social media sites.

Developing a successful entertainment app isn’t just about coding—it’s about creating an experience that captivates users and keeps them coming back for more. With the right strategy, engaging features, and a robust tech foundation, your app can carve out its space in the ever-growing entertainment market. VibeCoding Vs. Flutter – App Developer Freelancer

Would we need a developer if you can develop an app with AI? In other words could LLM develop an app that is functional and scalable? With the constant evolution of technology with new hardware such as smartwatches and new frameworks such as Flutter, is VibeCoding the next big thing in app development?

What is VibeCoding?

Vibecoding is slang for describing the process of having AI develop a program using prompts to have large language model (LLM) write the code for you. In other words prompting features for your app and have the code be written by AI based on the functionality you want without you writing a single line of code. It is often advertised as a way to have junior programmers or even people who have never written code in their lives to produce software including mobile apps.

What is Flutter Development?

Flutter is a framework backed by Dart, which was introduced by Google in 2017. It allows for programmers to write one line of code and have your app be functional on both iOS and Android systems. As a Flutter Freelancer, more and more app development is done in Flutter. This is because the system is flexible, stable and has performance similar to native development. Recently it has evolved to be able to build game apps without the use of unity.

What is Native App Development?

Native app development is coding in the language and framework that is specific to the operating system of the phone. For iOS you would use Swift, which replaced Objective-C apps. For Android you would use Kotlin or Java. The problem with native app development, is if you want your app to be on both Android and iOS platforms, you would need to write the same code twice. The advantage is that you would have a better performing app, however, in recent years Flutter has decreased that advantage. Of course if you have an app that was written in native code, and need to have maintenance on it or new features added, as a native app developer, I would be more than happy to help.

What are the risk of AI generated apps?

The biggest risks of using AI to generate your app, is the security, debugging and scalability. Here are the main risks that currently exists with AI generated mobile apps:

  • Security: AI apps may not be designed in a way that keeps your data secure. It is not unheard of of having vulnerabilities in your code. So if you are developing an app to handle any personal data or any data or process in your app that needs security for financial apps or military apps, vibecoding is not for you. For example, as a financial app freelancer, most of quality control is spent on testing the vulnerability of the app, and even known packages in Flutter, may not be viable for banks to use due to its potential risk.
  • Lack of Explanation: Having your app as a black box, can have issues with heavily regulated spaces such as legal apps, financial apps, healthcare apps and even simple consumer apps. Not having control over the code or ability to explain why a function is performing the way it is performing could lead to legal challenges.
  • Inaccurate outputs: Due to its training functionality, some outputs can be wrong. For example, you may have an app that counts calories for a specific sport. If you were to use traditional programming you would have a formula that would calculate calories based on factors inputted by the user. This formula with AI may change all the time and provide different answers based on the same inputs. Therefore, creating an app that’s not stable.
  • Debugging: If there is a bug, it makes it hard to find the issue, especially for inexperienced app developers. As a mobile app developer of over 12 years, I have tried to use VibeCoding to create a simple MVP, what I found is without the knowledge of where the bug was, it would be impossible to launch an AI generated app. What’s more, I found lots of security breaches and errors that would arise when you try to scale as it was build without the proper infrastructure that would not scale.
  • App is more than just a code: App typically starts with an idea, AI cannot come up with a unique idea by its nature of learning from past data. It also needs design elements, and while it can generate AI images and mimic voices of famous people, it is often easy to spot and may look like other similar apps, which may infringe on copywrites. Finally, the app has to be launched in the app store and more importantly found. Working with an ASO marketing agency, we find that even suggestions given by Apple search ads or Google AdWords, decreases the results of doing your own analysis and app store optimization. These are just some of the reasons where AI just simply would not work.

When would you use AI in Flutter App Development?

There are instances where AI can help speed up app development. When providing flutter app development services, your job is to build apps, debug and optimize performance. Sometimes it is faster to ask AI on some very specific code that is needed, which then can be tweaked to your specific instance. Typically, this can save you time, but should only be done in very specific use cases and checked prior to submitting the app for app review by AppStore or Google Play.

Another use case is to develop proof of concept app, if you need to present a prototype in order to raise funds, it maybe faster or cheaper to build your app with AI. However, for MVP (minimal viable product) that you would launch on the app stores it is advisable to build it the right way, where all code can be explained and easily de-bugged, with proper design and marketing this will ensure its highest chance of success.

About Brian Kayfitz

Brian Kayfitz, started his career 20 years ago developing games for Xbox, Play Station as well as Unity. Once apps came to your mobile phone he coded in Java and Objective-C. Transitioning into Kotlin and Swift, before finally developing in Flutter. After working for financial institution BMO developing their investment app, he worked for a quick serve restaurant developing apps for both eCommerce ordering as well as internal productivity. Finally, he has decided to mentor other app developers, build his own apps including popular travel app Visited, which has over 2.5 million users, and helped many businesses build their apps. As a flutter freelancer, he has worked on productivity apps, game apps, fitness apps, healthcare apps and more! If you are looking to develop your app in Flutter, Brian Kayfitz would be happy to help.

Developing games in Flutter Vs. Unity

As a seasoned Flutter game developer, who used to develop games in Unity. I can confidently say that for most game apps, Flutter can be used with confidence. In fact, I have build or help build games in Flutter that took only a few weeks to complete, such as a match game, MemoryMatch2, which was re-written in Flutter. Let’s compare Flutter to Unity to make the best decision for your game app.

What is Flutter Game Development?

Developing games in Flutter, can including using native Flutter functionality or third party tools such as Flame. While it was originally designed for building apps, it has progressed to have the ability to create simple games. Its programming language is Dart, which is fairly robust functionality, which can run on multiple platforms including Android, iOS and web.

What is Unity?

Unity has been around a lot longer than Flutter, and specializes in games, and has capability for advanced game design especially for 3D games. It offers powerful tools for animation, graphics and multi player settings. Traditionally, for any games Unity was the go to tool for mobile game developers.

Why I Switched from Unity to Flutter for Game Development

While originally Flutter was not know for game development, that is changing quickly, especially for 2D and simple games. Here are the reasons I tend to build games in Flutter as oppose to Unity:

  • Ease of Development: As both a unity game developer and flutter game developer, I typically gravitate towards utilizing Flutter for most of my game development needs. This is because 2D games can use libraries such as Flame.
  • Cross Platform Device: Flutter game development offers ability to launch on cross platform in order to reach most audiences. It is also a great tool for game prototyping and more important for games MVP development.
  • MVP Games: Developing an MVP game in Flutter, allows you to test your game idea prior to investing heavily into the development and marketing of the app. As as a Flutter freelancer and flutter mentor, I typically go to Flutter as a starting point for any app, and only if the game idea is too complex for Flutter to handle, then we can develop it in Unity.
  • Adding Games to Existing Apps: Flutter is also a great choice for those apps that have a game component to their existing Flutter App. For example, you may have an app for ordering food from your coffee shop, but want to do a game for those waiting in line at your coffee shop to do crossword puzzles or maybe puzzles to improve customer loyalty. You can do that with flutter game development services.

What kind of apps would I still build in Unity?

Unity is the usual choice for game developers, especially in the enterprise level. This is because it has been around much longer and it comes with every package that you would ever need to build a unique game especially in 3D. Here are some reasons I would choose Unity over Flutter for mobile app game development:

  • Complex multiplayer and graphic design: If you are looking for a sophisticated complex game that requires over 3 months plus in development time, and unique programming. I would choose Unity over Flutter, which excels at more basic functionality for game developers.
  • 3D game development: unity has rendering tools, animation frameworks, with massive asset store where you can utilizing lightening, advanced physics, textures for both characters and environments. These detailed graphics are very hard to replicate in Flutter.
  • Cross-Platform Flexibility: If you want your game to go beyond mobile and web, but go on consoles such as Xbox, PlayStation and others, Unity is your go to choice.

As a unity developer, I have created casino games, and Dragon’s Lair, both successful games that were sold on the Sony PlayStation. These games were developed that took months to develop. For those looking for a quick game or want to test their game idea, Flutter will be enough in 90% of the mobile app game cases. As a game developer, I would recommend testing your game idea on mobile app prior to investing into Unity game for consoles.

Games build in Flutter Examples:

There are many games that were developed with Flutter including :Dungeon Lord, I/O Pinball, Sudoku and Tetris. Here are some Flutter games that I have personally worked on: MemoryMatch2 a memory game, Word Cascade a puzzle, Mafia a board game and Landover a similar app to Catan.

How do I start by launching a Flutter Game

Prior to developing an app either in Flutter or Unity, the idea and its details should be well defined. For example, graphics, functionality, monetization plan, where it will be launched and if the idea is to test the market, add a game to an existing app or develop a complex game that will go beyond mobile. If you have details on the game, but do not have a game designer. There are many graphics that you can choose from, however, we can also find a game designer freelancer to create customized graphics for your game. The next step is to start developing. Once development is done, it is crucial to get it tested. After which point, it is vital to test the game prior to launching. As flutter game developer, the next stage is to launch in the app store and google play console. It is advisable to do ASO prior to launching, it is also important to ensure there is a marketing support for your game in order for it to get the exposure you need. As a mobile game app developer, we advise to start with a basic MVP prior to adding monetization strategies, and building out a more complex version of the game.

Advantages of Hiring a Freelance Flutter Developer

If you are looking to build an app, hiring a freelance flutter developer could be the best solution for your start-up or company. Flutter framework is utilizing dart language, is a cross platform solution which means your app is written once and can be used on both iOS and Android platforms, it also supports web. This can save your time and money when compared to native development. If you are considering hiring a freelance flutter developer here are the top advantages of hiring a freelance flutter developer:

  1. Cost – Hiring a full time flutter developer comes with extra cost from  paying of benefits, providing additional resources and having a developer full time. With a Freelance flutter developer, they take care of their own medical insurance and equipment, you only pay for the time they spend on development. Therefore, it is often much cheaper to hire a freelance flutter developer compared to a full time flutter developer.
  2. Scaling – If you need to have an app developed in a short period of time, you can hire a flutter agency, which can ensure that your app is developed in a small time frame. A flutter development agency can also include other services such as designers and app testers. Typically freelance flutter developers work with other developers, designer and QA tester to provide the same level of service as an agency but at a lower cost and higher quality of development.
  3. Expert level of development -Freelance flutter developers tend to be senior flutter developers who are on expert level and can work independently to get the app developed. They can fix other developers bugs, finalize an app, and update it to the latest version of the operating system as well as build an app from scratch. When hiring a development agency you sometimes get junior developers being supervised by senior developers and if you are hiring directly, flutter developers who have five plus years of experience will be very pricey.
  4. Mobile App Strategy – Freelance flutter developer can provide the right mobile app strategy based on your app’s requirement. Having the right technological approach and framework can go a long way in the longevity of your app. A flutter freelancer can also help identify areas of improvement for an existing code base.
  5. Maintenance of an existing app – If you have an existing app that was written in Flutter and need help with maintaining its code base on an ongoing basis, you do not need a full time developer. Therefore a Flutter freelance developer can help with the maintenance of an existing app when needed.
  6. Bug Fixes – If you have build an app in flutter but need to fix bugs and are stuck a Flutter Freelance developer can help. They can identify the issue and help solve it. Brian Kayfitz offers code review services to flutter development teams.
  7. New features for an existing app – If you have an exist app that needs a new feature or and update to the latest version of the platform, a flutter freelance developer can help. They can add a new feature to an existing code base and also help update existing code base based on the new feature requirements.
  8. Converting an app from native to cross platform App – If you have an app written in Objective C or JavaScript or Kotlin or Swift and are support two code bases you can have the app be re-written in Flutter. Flutter supports iOS, Android and web with just one code base. It is not unusual to have the re-write take a lot less time then original development of the app this is because all requirements and designs are finalized. Re-writing an existing app can help save time and money in the long run.
  9. Flexibility on development: Development in Flutter offers flexibility in terms of features that can speed up development time. Hiring a flutter freelancer, you can have flexibility on how fast and slow you are moving, what features you are building and how much budget you are spending on a monthly basis. You can also change your requirements as you develop your app.
  10. MVP App Development: Building an MVP app (minimum viable product) can be the best way to test the marketplace. Minimum viable product app is an app with basic features which include basic functionality. Before investing in building out an app that can take months if not a year with full features, and having a big team of developers working on it including front end and back end. You can build an app in flutter in a matter of weeks or a couple of months. Launch the app on both platforms iOS and Android to identify how well the app is doing in the marketplace. Once it is available for users to interact with, start-ups can get user feedback on what features they want to see and what they like or dislike about the product prior to doing heavy investment. These are just some of the advantages of hiring a flutter freelance developer, but what are some disadvantages? If you require an enterprise level app, with integration and a lot of functionality that require full time support, it maybe better to hire freelancers in house. Another  disadvantage is when hiring an mobile app development agency, you can get a project manager, designer, UI/UX specialist, conversion specialist and sometimes even marketing specialist all with one fixed development cost. It is usually less cost effective, and sometimes can take longer than hiring a freelancer, who can then connect with other freelancers, it means communicating with one person as oppose to many. The other disadvantage of hiring a Flutter freelancer is the lack of backend support. Most Flutter developers are front-end developers meaning they can integrate the app and its functionality with design and back end systems, but cannot build a back end environment. There are tools available such as Firebase or Amplify that can solve that problem but if you are looking to build a SQL database from scratch for example, you would need to hire a backend developer. Most Flutter freelancers have worked with different backend developers which can be recommended, also a lot of companies have internal teams that deal with internal data which means there is no issue in your app development.

Regardless of the status of your app if its in design, already developed, needs to be re-written or has bugs to fix, Brian Kayfitz a Flutter freelance developer can help get your app live on the both AppStore and Google Play Store. He has been a freelancer since 2020, and has been an app developer since 2012, with over 30 apps built and maintained in both native and Flutter environments. Mobile App Development MVP

If you have an app idea or want to convert a webapp into a mobile app, the best way to do it is to create an MVP (Minimum Viable Product). Mobile app development MVP is the process of creating a basic app with core functionality that lets you test the market. The best framework to use is Flutter as it is a cross platform and will you launch an identical app for Android and iOS with one code base.

Why Develop an MVP App?

There are a lot of advantages to starting with MVP app instead of building a full version of your app. It lets you test the marketplace prior to spending a lot of time and money on the full version. It also lets you have a prototype to raise funds for future app development. Finally, it will help you with roadmap of your full mobile app as you can get feedback from real users.

Advantages to developing a Minimum Viable Product?

  • Launch the App Faster: Since you are launching an app with basic functionality, it should take less time to develop it. This will ensure that you are is on the stores ready for testing in a fraction of the time it would take to develop the full version of your app’s vision.
  • Decreased Cost: The biggest advantage to MVP development is decreased cost. When done right, you can test your concept without spending an arm and a leg, making it more affordable to test your marketplace or finance the first version of the app prior to raising more capital.
  • Future Mobile App Roadmap: A lot of times when developing the app’s roadmap, you are not sure what feature to prioritize or perhaps your investors or board of directors cannot decide on best strategy forward. Instead of guessing, why not do the research on existing users, users that are engaged with the app love to provide feedback and what they wish to see in the future. As an example, when we launched Visited, an app that now has over 2 million users, it started with a simple map of where you want to go or you have been, and a counter. Well over the years, it has grown to having a city map, travel list checklist, travel itinerary and inspiration feature and way more travel stats. This is all due to our users asking for those features, we did not have to guess we just had to listen to their requests and quantify to get the priority, resulting in a better app than we can ever imagine when we started out.

How long does it take to build an MVP app for mobile app developer?

When done right an MVP can take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks to build, in some scenarios it can be 3 months, but should never go beyond 6 months. If it is going to take longer it means MVP plan was not done right. It is important to have a properly MVP strategy in place prior to writing any code, a senior mobile app consultant would be able to assist you with that.

Steps to take prior to doing MVP app development:

Prior to hiring a app development freelancer, it is important to ensure that you have the following MVP checklist complete. This will ensure that your app has the highest chance of success, will be build on time and will be on budget.

  • What is the core functionality of the app? In other words why is your app different than similar apps. For example, you may have an app idea to build an ecommerce app to sell your products, however, instead of doing the same app your competitors are building your idea is to have a feature that will let consumers select products by colors so they can match their decor. Therefore, your core functionality would be based on color matching, and then displaying products of that color. That is the core product.
  • Target Audience: Who is your ideal user? You do not have to do market research or have a demographic/psychographic profile as they do in marketing agencies. But you need to know who you are targeting. For example, is your app going to be focused on seniors, this means that your app’s UI (design) has to include big font so its easier to read. If your app is focused on those that love to sail, then you need to think how can I make an app that’s accessible offline, because they will be using it on sailing boats that may or may not have Wi-fi. Thinking through the audience prior to building will ensure best performance of the app.
  • Defining KPIs for your MVP: It is always a good idea to not only focused on features or development but rather have a mathematical approach to measuring success. Having key performance indicators (KPIs) from the beginning ensures that you have a plan to execute and that your developer knows to implement event tracking inside your app. For example, if you building an app for music teachers, you may want to have a measurement on how many classes a teacher has booked, this needs to be in the development plan. Outside of in-app KPIs, you should have business goals. For example, within three months of launch, we need to have a minimum of 100 DAU (Daily Active Users) for our game app, or it is not a viable product.

Process of MVP Development:

The MVP Development process is fairly simple if you hire the right app development company. Here are the few steps to take to get your MVP into the App Store/Play Store.

  1. Plan for MVP: What features you want to include? What is the core of your app? The minimum requirements? What is the design going to look like, do you have a designer, brand colors, wire-frames created or would you need to create it from scratch? Do you have back-end that needs to be build to host data? What tools, frameworks and tech stack you want to use in your app development? Where will you be measuring results? Having a specific plan will go a long way, do not worry it may seem like a lot but a professional will be able to guide you and address all of these questions and find solutions in a meeting or two.
  2. Development: If you are hiring an app development agency or a app freelancer, this is a task for them. As the plan is in place, they can just execute, of course the best development is when there is communication between company the development to ensure that your MVP is build the way you desired.
  3. Testing: Prior to launch it is a good idea to do testing, while the app developer will probably implement automatic testing to check for bugs however, you should check all functionality. In fact, you should probably give the app to a few people to test or higher a proper QA testers, depending on your budget of course.
  4. Launch: Prior to launch itis good to go ASO (App store optimization), without it no one will find your app. Once your on page optimization is done, you can now launch your app. If you already have users in other platforms or your CRM, you can let them know that your app is live.
  5. Future Road map: Post launch, you should give your app some time to acquire users. After a few weeks, it is time to compare your KPIs against your goals, collect feedback from users and analyze data for future releases. After all data is analyzed it is time to map out all future development and continue development.

Where to find mobile app development services for MVP?

If you are ready to have your MVP developed, have an idea or even a plan, maybe even wireframes, it is now time to hire a mobile app developer. There are a few places you can go:

  • Mobile App Development Agencies: The agencies typically work on huge budgets, so if your app is small, it is going to be hard to find an agency that will take it on. The agencies also always come with overhead for project manager, designer, testers, etc… However, if you have the budget, you do not need to find your own designer or project manager, they will provide one for you all including in app development fees.
  • Flutter Freelancer: Since in our opinion the best framework to use when developing an MVP is using Flutter, you can try hiring a flutter freelancer, such as Brian Kayfitz. Brian is a mobile app developer that has build many MVPs some in a manner of weeks. In almost all industries. He can guide you through your MVP plan and consult you on pre an post development.
  • Hire Developer In House: Bringing a developer in house can be a great way to control development, especially for long term maintenance of the app. The problem is if your MVP fails, now you have to let go of the developer which is often the hardest thing for entrepreneurs to do. The other issue with hiring a full time developer is the high cost, you will also need to consider to bring in testers, project manager and designer if you want to develop your own mobile app development department to support your app.

If you have an app idea, have a webapp that you want to go mobile or have MVP wire-frames ready to go, contact Brian Kayfitz, he can consult you on your mobile app strategy, set up your KPIs, develop your MVP and help you with future app’s roadmap.

Flutter App Development Services

Brian Kayfitz Development is offering Flutter App Development Services to developers, entrepreneurs, start-ups and companies. From App Development to maintaining, testing or debugging an existing app, or migrating a webapp or native app to Flutter app, senior flutter developer can help.

List of available flutter development services:

  • App Development: If you are looking to develop an app for both iOS and Android with one code base then Flutter framework is the way to go. The process to develop an app is identifying the idea for an app, developing a strategy from app development as well as marketing/business model for the app, designing the flow of the app and how you want it to look, and finally developing it. After app development is done, it is time to test it, de-bug it, and launch it in App store/Google Play. Most of the time the work is just beginning, as app development has on-going maintenance as well as new feature development. It is advisable to build an MVP app for anyone that is trying to proof a concept.
    • Examples of Apps developed by Brian Kayfitz: Visited, BMO Investorline, SwissChalet and  MyJourney.
  • MVP App Development: MVP or Minimum Viable Product App is the idea that you build a basic core functioning app prior to doing a full scale app development. This is recommended for start-ups that are looking to develop a prototype prior to raising funds. Entrepreneurs or businesses that are not sure how well the app will be received in the marketplace, so testing in real-life is the best strategy. Additionally, it is a great starting point for anyone with an idea that has many features that they want to build but not sure how to prioritize. MVP app is usually faster to build as you are focusing on only basic unique functionality, therefore making it much cheaper than a full scale development. It also allows companies to collect data from real users on new features that they want to see in your basic app, making roadmap feature development easier to plan and justify to investors if financing is needed for development.
  • Migrating App to Flutter: For anyone that is currently maintaining two code basis written in native languages such as Objective-C or Swift as well as Java or Kotlin, you can now migrate it to Flutter. This will save you time in new feature development and ensure same user experience regardless of the device they use. You can also get your webapp written in Flutter, making it the only platform that will allow you to have an app on mobile and web with one code base. While migrating existing code, can be expensive, it will save you time and money in the long-term.
  • New Feature Development Services for an Existing App: Most mobile app development companies will be able to build a brand new app or MVP and some will be able to migrate an app into Flutter, however, few if any will touch an existing code base for a new feature or update. A lot of companies that have build apps or have an app, do not have access to the original developer/developers that have written it. However, apps need constant updating due to new versions coming out, outdated packages or new feature development. Therefore, if you need someone to help update an existing app or develop a new feature in native languages or cross-platform framework Flutter. Brian Kayfitz can help he has worked with many app companies to develop new features, update existing apps and fix bugs.
  • Bug Fixes: Bugs are probably the biggest issues that face flutter devs, it is often hard to find and sometimes even harder to fix. While automation and de-bugging tools are getting better in capturing and identifying bugs, fixing it or finding the root cause is essential in solving the problem. As writers get writers block, same with developers, when looking at the same code over and over, developers get blocked. Sometimes letting another developer look at the code can help identify the issue and find a solution. Brian Kayfitz has helped many developers identify the bugs and optimize current app for optimized performance.
  • Flutter Mentor & Training: Brian Kayfitz is passionate about helping developers new to Flutter excel and grow. He has co-authored a Flutter Cookbook, to help developers develop necessary skills to build high performance apps. He has also did countless Flutter code reviews for small and large dev teams. Code reviews are important to ensure that code is written in a way that any other developer can understand and integrate. He has also mentored many developers which has earned him a five star review on CodeMentor.
    • Example of company that has hired Brian to conduct code-reviews and mentor team: Adyton

These are just some mobile app dev services, that are available. Brian Kayfitz has opened his company in order to build apps, help maintain current apps and train other developers. There are many companies that will develop apps, but a few that will service it after development or work with small projects, which is why Brian Kayfitz decided to stay as a App Freelancer, as oppose to hiring other developers to simply build apps. Contact Brian today, to get a quote on your app development needs.
